COVID-19 Styled Shoot
Why do a COVID Shoot?
Here at The Gathering Co., we have a passion for art and experiences. With our eye for beauty and careful thought for the vision of our clients, we put our minds together to tackle the issues that the pandemic has presented within the wedding community. This COVID shoot was created to show our clients and vendors that all hope is not lost! Through this styled shoot, we hope you can see beautiful design is still possible when following pandemic guidelines.
Our jobs and our clients are incredibly important to us and in these difficult times we, as a community, need to lift each other up, encourage strength, and offer creative resolutions.
This shoot is meant to look and feel like a real wedding, to show that a wedding during COVID doesn’t have to feel restricted or cold. Which also is the reason behind the color scheme—earth-tones! Earth-tones are the perfect way to bring some warmth to your COVID wedding!
With the color scheme and design direction down, we wanted to find a way to make the shoot more dynamic...enter Foraged Films, our lovely videographer duo!
Preparing for the Shoot
In the days leading up to the shoot it felt like preparing for an actual wedding, despite this being a styled photo-shoot. We had to figure out how to handle all of these guidelines and simultaneously create the atmosphere of a “Gathering Co.” wedding. The biggest challenge was to create a shoot that looks like a real, safe, Instagram-worthy wedding. Right now, the list of pandemic social distancing guidelines gets a solid yikes from us, but bring it on, we got this! This shoot is our way of showing the world that it is possible guys and gals! We’ve done the heavy lifting to make this happen, now why should you start from scratch when you could use some of our tips and tricks?
We had to take COVID-19 safety guidelines into account for the shoot—that’s what you clicked on this for, right? Here’s a list of some changes we had to make:
Making sure everyone had their own water bottles
Having a sanitation unit come in before the shoot
Giving everyone their own personal dishes for dinner
Hiring one single person to man the bar
Wearing masks that were distributed at the start of the shoot
Having a well-ventilated, spacious area for everyone to hang out
Keep these adjustments in mind when you’re planning your own COVID wedding!

The Day of the Shoot: Did it go as planned?
Our job is to plan, but it’s also to troubleshoot when there are any unexpected issues or changes that need to be made on the spot. In the case of this shoot, a sudden rainstorm, that was not in the forecast earlier, and sticky, uncomfortable heat threw a wrench into our plans to have certain shots done outside. The sun/lighting was off as a result, which is a big factor when doing photography or videography. Weather is an inevitable evil that wedding planners need to deal with on the reg; lucky for us, with the help of our talented vendors and by putting our heads together, we couldn’t have asked for better results! The pictures and video turned out awesome, if we do say so ourselves! Of course, you can be the judge of that ;).
Wedding Planning Tip:
If you ever find yourself in a wedding planning bind, work quickly and take into consideration how it’s going to affect your couple as well as the atmosphere and service. As a wedding planner, you need to have a gift for quick thinking and becoming a calming spirit for the guest and yourself.
Also, you shouldn’t be afraid of turning to a vendor or coworker to honestly work through issues. Having the support of those around you is an easy way to ground yourself when tensions rise. Don’t hesitate to delegate! There are bound to be times when you can’t fix the issue on your own. Vendors and coworkers are there to help, so let them help!
